Aguilar Announces Over $500,000 for City of San Bernardino Public Safety
Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the Department of Justice awarded $533,314 in Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funds to the San Bernardino Police Department (SBPD). The funds will enable SBPD to invest in a wide array of necessary resources to reduce crime in the City of San Bernardino. This funding comes on the heels of a $5.3 million Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant received by SBPD last month.

Aguilar Helps Secure Over $71,000 for Fontana Fire Department
Rep. Pete Aguilar announced the Fontana Fire Protection District (FFPD) has received a $71,364 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The funding will enable FFPD to purchase a new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) fill station for Fire Station 77. The new SCBA fill station equipment will have an immediate and long-term impact on firefighter safety and the ability of FFPD to fulfill its firefighting and public protection mission. The funding comes after Rep. Aguilar wrote a letter to FEMA advocating for Fontana’s AFG application.
Aguilar Visits USPS San Bernardino Processing and Distribution Center to Call for Action to Protect the Postal Service
Representative Aguilar visited the USPS San Bernardino Mail Processing and Distribution Center with local postal union leaders to call on the Senate and President Trump to pass the Delivering for America Act into law. The bill, which would fund the $25 billion requested by the USPS to address their funding shortfall and would ban the Postal Service from making any changes to their operations or service levels, is set to pass the House of Representatives on Saturday.

Aguilar Announces Nearly $800,000 for Inland Empire College Students
Rep. Pete Aguilar announced $348,002 for the San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) and $444,751 for California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) from the Department of Education’s Student Support Services (SSS) grant program. The program provides funding to help colleges provide financial aid, tutoring and academic counseling to low-income students, students with disabilities and other disadvantaged students.

House Passes Bill to Establish Museum of the American Latino on the National Mall
The House passed H.R. 2420, a bill to establish a Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino on the National Mall dedicated to honoring the contributions of American Latinos throughout US history. The bill, which was sponsored by Congressman Jose Serrano (NY-15), passed unanimously, with Rep. Pete Aguilar leading debate on the House floor.

Aguilar Announces Over $5 Million for San Bernardino Community Policing Initiative
Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the San Bernardino Police Department (SBPD) received $5,383,549 from the Department of Justice (DOJ) Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant program. The funding will allow the department to establish community-based teams of officers within five districts of the city with the goal of improving relationships between community members and the department.
Aguilar Amendments to Root Out White Nationalism in the Military, Enhance US Cyber Security Pass with National Defense Bill
Today, the House passed H.R. 6395 the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021.The bill includes three amendments offered by Rep. Pete Aguilar. The first requires the Department of Defense to include information on all instances of white supremacist activity found within the military in an annual report to Congress. The second creates a permanent direct-commissioning program to allow cybersecurity professionals to be commissioned as military officers following a successful pilot program established by Rep. Aguilar in 2017. The third requires the Department of Defense to submit a report to Congress on the current state of the United States’ nuclear capabilities and threats.

Aguilar Announces Federal Funding for San Bernardino Railroad Safety
Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the San Bernardino Police Department received $80,000 from the US Department of Transportation Federal Railway Administration. The funding will allow the department to increase education and enforcement efforts around railway trespassing with the goal of reducing the high death rate associated with railway trespassing in the San Bernardino area.

Aguilar-Hurd Amendment to Protect DACA and TPS Recipients Passes Appropriations Committee
The House Appropriations Committee passed the Fiscal Year 2021 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill. The bill includes an amendment, introduced by Reps. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) and Will Hurd (R-TX), that will protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and those eligible for such programs in good standing from deportation, detention, or denial of work authorization by Department of Homeland Security officials. The amendment, which had robust bipartisan support in the committee, will now be included in the final version of the bill when it is considered by the full House of Representatives.
Aguilar Provisions to Allow Dreamers to Work in Congress, Increase Staff Diversity Pass Appropriations Committee
The House Appropriations Committee passed the Fiscal Year 2021 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill out of committee. The funding bill includes several key provisions offered by Rep. Pete Aguilar. The first would allow Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients to be eligible for employment in Congressional offices. The second increases funding for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the third provides funding to pay congressional interns, ensuring internship opportunities are not only available to those who can afford to work in an unpaid position.
