Aguilar Announces Over $4 Million in Inland Empire Head Start Funding
Rep Pete Aguilar (D-San Bernardino) announced that Easterseals Southern California has been awarded $4,469,703 from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Head Start Programs. The Head Start funding will be used to support Easterseals Early Head Start services, including full-day child care and both center-based and home-based early education programs for Inland Empire children living with or without disabilities. Founded in 1907, Easterseals provides resources to families with disabilities throughout the United States, serving over 1.4 million people each year.

Aguilar’s Bill to Connect Veterans with Civilian Jobs Takes Effect
The Active Duty Voluntary Acquisition of Necessary Credentials for Employment (ADVANCE) Act, a bill authored by Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-San Bernardino) and signed into law by the president in 2018, has taken effect. The implementation of the new policy means that states have the ability to waive certain requirements for qualifying veteran, active duty and reserve military service members who are seeking commercial driver’s licenses.

Aguilar and Loma Linda University Health Announce over $400,000 Research Grant
Rep. Pete Aguilar and Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) announced that LLUH has received $433,430 in federal funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support a new medical research project. The grant funding comes from the NIH Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation Research Award and will support research into the potential use of vitamin D to enhance intestinal wall repair for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Aguilar’s Bipartisan Bill to Support Jobs and Expand Conservation Areas within San Bernardino County Signed into Law
President Trump signed into law S. 47, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act, a package of public lands bills that included Rep. Pete Aguilar’s Santa Ana Wash Plan Land Exchange Act, a bipartisan bill that he introduced with Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley). The bill authorizes a land exchange within the Santa Ana Wash, located between the cities of Redlands and Highland, which will expand conservation areas for endangered plants and animals while supporting local jobs.

Aguilar’s Bipartisan Bill to Expand Environmental Protections and Grow Economy in San Bernardino County Heads to President’s Desk
The House of Representatives passed S. 47, the Natural Resources Management Act. The legislative package of over 100 public lands bills included Rep. Pete Aguilar’s Santa Ana Wash Plan Exchange Act, a bill that would initiate a land exchange between the San Bernardino Water Conservation District and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to continue mining operations on designated parcels of land within the Santa Ana Wash, resulting in an estimated $47 million in investments into local infrastructure projects. The bill would also expand conservation areas for threatened or endangered plants and animals within the Santa Ana Wash.

Aguilar Takes “Job for a Day” Tour to March Air Reserve Base
Rep. Aguilar took his Job for a Day tour of the Inland Empire to March Air Reserve Base, where he learned how to record, edit and upload audio files for American Forces Network (AFN). AFN provides radio and television news and entertainment for active, guard, and Reserve military service members, and their families overseas. AFN reaches US military audiences in 168 countries, as well as Navy and Coast Guard ships around the world. In addition to learning firsthand about the work of an AFN Radio Specialist, Rep. Aguilar recorded a brief radio message to thank deployed service members and their families.

Aguilar Announces Over $3.5 Million to Assist Homeless in San Bernardino County
Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino (HACSB) has received a $3.56 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Continuum of Care (CoC) Program. The CoC program provides funding for local governments and nonprofits with the goal of ending homelessness by providing homeless individuals and families with housing resources. This renewal in funding will help HACSB continue to serve approximately 350 homeless individuals and families with disabilities throughout San Bernardino County.

Aguilar and Cook Re-Introduce Plan to Expand Environmental Protection and Economic Development
Reps. Pete Aguilar and Paul Cook introduced the Santa Ana Wash Plan Land Exchange Act, a bill to complete the Upper Santa Ana Wash Land Management and Habitat Conservation Plan (Wash Plan) in the cities of Redlands and Highland. The bill would initiate a land exchange between the San Bernardino Water Conservation District and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to continue mining operations on designated parcels of land within the Santa Ana Wash. This agreement would consolidate what is now a patchwork of land to allow economic development in the region to continue alongside conservation efforts. The San Bernardino Valley Water District estimates that implementation of the plan would result in over $47 million in investments for infrastructure projects as well as other public projects such as a 15 mile walking trail in Redlands and Highland.

Aguilar Calls for President Trump to Commit to Bipartisan Cooperation During State of the Union
Rep. Pete Aguilar called for President Trump to use his platform at the 2019 State of the Union address to commit to bipartisan cooperation in order to avoid another costly government shutdown if funding lapses on February 15th and to work across the aisle during the 116th Congress to address issues critical to the American public. Sister Hortencia Del Villar, Director of Social Concerns of the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino and an immigrant-rights advocate, will attend the address as Rep. Aguilar’s guest.
