Today, the House passed the INVEST in America Act. The landmark transportation and infrastructure bill included $19,988,630 in funding for Inland Empire projects requested by Rep. Pete Aguilar. Proposals for these projects were submitted by the community through the Member-Designated Transportation Projects process before being approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and passed by the full House. Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) has received $2,975,245 in federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The funding will be distributed in annual installments of $595,049 per year over five years and allow the LLUH Education Consortium Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Program to create a one-year preventive medicine training option for residents who have completed internal or family medicine residencies with a focus on maternal health.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) has received $26.1 million in federal funding from the US Department of Transportation. The funding comes from the American Rescue Plan, landmark legislation led by President Biden and passed by Rep. Aguilar and Congressional Democrats. It will help establish the West Valley Connector project, which will utilize a fleet of zero-emission buses and 21 new bus stations to establish new public transit routes to key San Bernardino County destinations including Victoria Gardens and Ontario International Airport.

Rep. Pete Aguilar held a virtual send-off meeting with Inland Empire students successfully nominated by his office to attend US Service Academies. In order to attend a service academy, students need to be nominated by their Member of Congress. Students in CA-31 were nominated after a rigorous interview and application process that included interviews with local veterans and former academy attendees.

Pete Aguilar announced that the San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department has received two grants totaling $6,303,075 from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Head Start. The funding will help the Preschool Services Department operate an in-person summer school session to help prepare students for the beginning of kindergarten.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that Arroyo Valley High School student Roxanne Ybarra is the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for California’s 31st Congressional District for her painting, “Grandma’s House.” Eliana Jackson, a student at Wilmer Amina Carter High School in Rialto finished in second for her work, “All of Nature’s Beauty” and Samantha Garcia, also a student at Carter High School, finished in third with her painting, “Imperfect Blue.” The first place winner’s artwork will be displayed in the US Capitol building in Washington, DC for one year, and the second and third place winners will have their work displayed in the Garcia Center for the Arts in San Bernardino.

On Monday, May 24, 2021, Congressman Pete Aguilar will award 13 combat medals to John Kerins, a Vietnam War veteran who resides in Fontana. The medals, including the Bronze Star, were earned for heroic service during the conflict in Vietnam but were never awarded. After advocating on behalf of Mr. Kerins, Aguilar’s office was able to secure the medals from the Department of the Army to be formally awarded to Mr. Kerins for the first time.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced more than $159 million in American Rescue Plan emergency funding for colleges, universities, and students in California’s 31st Congressional District. The funding will allow these institutions to offset losses from the COVID-19 crisis and continue providing high-quality education while ensuring student safety. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed in the form of emergency financial assistance grants to students who are facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship.

Aguilar, a Democrat from Redlands, hosted a telephone town hall meeting about the Rescue Plan for residents of California’s 31st Congressional District on Monday, Feb. 2. The House of Representatives passed the bill on Saturday, Feb. 27. According to Aguilar, the Senate will move to pass its own version of the bill and send it back to the House for a final vote, possibly early next week.

Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, has introduced a bill with seven recommendations to prevent white nationalists from infiltrating the U.S. military — something a new Pentagon report says is already happening and is a continued threat.
Aguilar’s bill would turn the recommendations from that report — which he had requested after seeing news coverage suggesting it was increasing problem — into law.

U.S. Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that Dr. Subburaman Mohan, director of the Musculoskeletal Disease Center at the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System, has received a $1.6 million research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The grant, which will be awarded over a five-year period, will fund cutting-edge research into the link between obesity-caused illnesses and bone fractures, and will support the development of treatment for these conditions.

Democrats Juan Vargas and Pete Aguilar says the Homeownership for Dreamers Act will ensure that Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals beneficiaries are eligible for Federal Housing Administration home loans. Vargas believes "Dreamers" deserve the same access to opportunities offered to other Americans.

Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Redlands, announced Sept. 9 that the Redlands Fire Department has received $34,081.82 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant COVID-19 Supplemental Program.
The funding will be used to help the department purchase personal protective equipment to help protect firefighters from contracting COVID-19, according to a news release.
