Rep. Pete Aguilar announced more than $500,000 in federal grant funding for three Inland Empire health care providers. SAC Health System (SACHS), a San Bernardino-based community health care provider, received a total of $369,750 split between two grants, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (SBCDPH) received $93,013 and Inland Behavioral Health Services received $45,750. The funding comes from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and will allow local health care providers to invest in patient services like addiction counseling, mental health services, vaccine readiness and more.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the County of San Bernardino Preschool Services Department received $2,201,714 from the US Department of Health and Human Services Head Start and Early Head Start Grant Program. The funds will be used for workforce retention and training programs for Head Start teachers in San Bernardino County.

Pete Aguilar announced that Reach Out, an Upland-based nonprofit organization, received $200,000 in federal funding from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) for their Morongo Basin Opioid Project. The project supports community engagement, treatment and recovery assistance to help combat the opioid crisis in eastern San Bernardino County.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the Redlands Fire Department received $34,081.82 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) COVID-19 Supplemental Program. The funding will be used to help the Department purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) to help protect firefighters from contracting COVID-19. Equipment to be purchased includes, respiratory protection (N95 and P100 masks), protective gowns, eye coverings and more.

In a virtual ceremony, Rep. Pete Aguilar presented eleven medals and commendations to the family of Tech Corporal Murry Pruyne, a veteran of World War II. After nearly twenty years of trying to retrieve his father’s medals, Donald Pruyne of Fontana contacted Rep. Aguilar’s office in June of this year and Rep. Aguilar was able to secure the medals shortly after. Rep. Aguilar presented the medals to the Pruyne family in a virtual ceremony held yesterday.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the Department of Justice awarded $533,314 in Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funds to the San Bernardino Police Department (SBPD). The funds will enable SBPD to invest in a wide array of necessary resources to reduce crime in the City of San Bernardino. This funding comes on the heels of a $5.3 million Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant received by SBPD last month.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced the Fontana Fire Protection District (FFPD) has received a $71,364 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The funding will enable FFPD to purchase a new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) fill station for Fire Station 77. The new SCBA fill station equipment will have an immediate and long-term impact on firefighter safety and the ability of FFPD to fulfill its firefighting and public protection mission. The funding comes after Rep. Aguilar wrote a letter to FEMA advocating for Fontana’s AFG application.

Representative Aguilar visited the USPS San Bernardino Mail Processing and Distribution Center with local postal union leaders to call on the Senate and President Trump to pass the Delivering for America Act into law. The bill, which would fund the $25 billion requested by the USPS to address their funding shortfall and would ban the Postal Service from making any changes to their operations or service levels, is set to pass the House of Representatives on Saturday.

Pete Aguilar announced $348,002 for the San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) and $444,751 for California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) from the Department of Education’s Student Support Services (SSS) grant program. The program provides funding to help colleges provide financial aid, tutoring and academic counseling to low-income students, students with disabilities and other disadvantaged students.

The House passed H.R. 2420, a bill to establish a Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino on the National Mall dedicated to honoring the contributions of American Latinos throughout US history. The bill, which was sponsored by Congressman Jose Serrano (NY-15), passed unanimously, with Rep. Pete Aguilar leading debate on the House floor.
