Rep. Pete Aguilar announced $861,299 in federal funding for SAC Health System (SACHS) as part of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Health Center Cluster Program. The funding will help SACHS continue its mission of providing high-quality affordable health care to Inland Empire residents, including specialized treatment options for the homeless. SACHS provides a wide range of care to the medically-underserved community throughout the Inland Empire region. In 2019, SACHS provided care to 36,107 patients in 141,737 visits.

The funding was made possible by the CARES Act, bipartisan legislation to help American families and businesses navigate the coronavirus crisis.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced over $47 million in federal funding to support Inland Empire colleges and students during the coronavirus crisis. The funding, which was appropriated by the CARES Act, provides $26,243,781 for California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), $6,732,563 for San Bernardino Valley Community College, $3,388,020 for University of Redlands, and $11,446,484 for Chaffey College. The CARES Act requires that the at least 50 percent of all funds go toward direct relief for students in the form of tuition assistance, financial aid, meal programs and other student services.

Today, Rep. Pete Aguilar announced $2,626,084 in supplemental funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help combat the coronavirus crisis in the Inland Empire. The funding, which comes after Congress appropriated over $200 billion to local health care providers through the CARES Act, will be distributed to three Inland Empire health care providers. SAC Health System (SACHS) has received $1,094,761, Inland Behavioral and Health Services (IBHS) has received $711,077 and the County of San Bernardino Department of Public Health has received $820,246. The funds will be used to help these agencies meet the challenges posed by the spread of COVID-19 by investing in telehealth options for patients, purchasing protective equipment for health care workers, and funding additional staff to increase patient care and testing capacities.

Congressman Pete Aguilar announced that five Inland Empire cities and the County of San Bernardino received a total of $13,133,589 in federal grant funding to begin responding to the financial crisis created by the spread of coronavirus. The new funding comes in the form of Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program funds, which allow city and county governments to invest in programs to support economic growth, spur job creation, address homelessness and provide affordable housing. These funds were made available by the CARES Act, the third federal coronavirus response bill, which Congressman Aguilar helped pass on March 27, 2020.

Aguilar returned to Washington to support the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a $2 trillion stimulus bill to provide immediate relief to working Americans, small businesses and families affected by the coronavirus crisis. The bill establishes direct payments of up to $1,200 for most Americans, provides $350 billion in relief to small business owners, expands unemployment insurance benefits for affected workers, supplies approximately $200 billion to hospitals and health care providers, and grants $150 billion to state and local governments for emergency response.

The House passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, legislation designed to help the American people combat the spread of COVID-19, the disease associated with coronavirus. The bill guarantees two weeks of paid sick leave for those affected by the virus; allows up to three months of paid family and sick leave; strengthens unemployment programs for those who lose work; and makes testing free for everyone, including those without health insurance. To provide state and local governments with the resources they need to provide adequate care, the bill increases funds for Medicaid. It also strengthens food security initiatives such as SNAP, and food programs for seniors and food banks to help address food insecurities created by closures.

In a bipartisan vote, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6074, an emergency funding bill to provide $8.3 billion in new funding to help contain and prevent the spread of Coronavirus. The bill provides funding for vaccine research, support for state and local health agencies, and low-interest loans for small businesses affected by the crisis.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) has been awarded $69,651 from the Department of Education through the Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) Grant Program. Rep. Aguilar authored a letter of support for the federal grant on behalf of the school district in June to help North Park Elementary recover from the horrific shooting that claimed the lives of Karen Smith and Jonathan Martinez, a teacher and eight-year-old student at the San Bernardino school. Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the Department of Homeland Security awarded San Bernardino County $1.3 million in federal funds to be used to improve the region’s ability to prepare for, prevent and respond to potential terrorist attacks. The funding comes after more than 18 months of Rep. Aguilar advocating for the region to receive the funds and calling on the federal government to allocate additional federal dollars to the Inland Empire community, which is still recovering from the horrific terror attack at the Inland Regional Center on December 2, 2015 that killed 14 and seriously injured 22. Rep. Pete Aguilar announced the introduction of H.R. 2979, a bill to name the United States Post Office located at 390 West 5th Street in San Bernardino after Jack H. Brown. The post office would be designated the “Jack H. Brown Post Office Building” in honor of Jack H. Brown, the late Executive Chairman of the regional grocery chain Stater Bros.
