Rep. Pete Aguilar announced over $66 million for San Bernardino County schools allocated by the CARES Act. Individual schools, school districts and the San Bernardino County Office of Education are eligible to receive this funding. The CARES Act appropriated $13.2 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund to help schools recover from economic hardship and implement new safety regulations for students. San Bernardino County school districts and the San Bernardino County Office of Education are eligible for a total of $56,014,676, and individual schools are eligible to receive the remaining $10 million.

Pete Aguilar announced that SAC Health System (SACHS) has received $4.8 million in Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) grant funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to continue its work as a Teaching Health Center. The grant program, established by the Affordable Care Act, supports the expansion of community-based health care and allows regions like San Bernardino County to attract graduate medical residents to help provide primary and ambulatory care.

Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) has been awarded $69,651 from the Department of Education through the Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) Grant Program. Rep. Aguilar authored a letter of support for the federal grant on behalf of the school district in June to help North Park Elementary recover from the horrific shooting that claimed the lives of Karen Smith and Jonathan Martinez, a teacher and eight-year-old student at the San Bernardino school. Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the Department of Homeland Security awarded San Bernardino County $1.3 million in federal funds to be used to improve the region’s ability to prepare for, prevent and respond to potential terrorist attacks. The funding comes after more than 18 months of Rep. Aguilar advocating for the region to receive the funds and calling on the federal government to allocate additional federal dollars to the Inland Empire community, which is still recovering from the horrific terror attack at the Inland Regional Center on December 2, 2015 that killed 14 and seriously injured 22. Rep. Pete Aguilar announced the introduction of H.R. 2979, a bill to name the United States Post Office located at 390 West 5th Street in San Bernardino after Jack H. Brown. The post office would be designated the “Jack H. Brown Post Office Building” in honor of Jack H. Brown, the late Executive Chairman of the regional grocery chain Stater Bros. The Active Duty Voluntary Acquisition of Necessary Credentials for Employment (ADVANCE) Act passed by a vote of 409 to 0.
