August 1, 2019 Press Release
Today, Rep. Pete Aguilar released the following statement: “Special Counsel Mueller’s report and testimony clearly outlined unacceptable, inappropriate and potentially criminal conduct by the president, including obstruction of justice. Despite attempts in Congress to investigate the president’s actions, the administration has chosen to hinder investigations, withhold documents, and ignore congressional subpoenas. No American is above the law. After careful consideration and conversations with members of my community, I believe it is time for the House to begin proceedings to determine whether the president’s conduct meets the standards of impeachment.”

The House Appropriations Committee passed two provisions authored by Rep. Pete Aguilar to protect DACA recipients and allow them to serve their communities. The first amends the Homeland Security Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2020 by adding a provision that prohibits the detention and deportation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, so long as they still meet all eligibility requirements for DACA status. The second, which was included in the Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill, allows DACA recipients to become eligible for federal employment.
This week, the House Appropriations Committee passed the Fiscal Year 2020 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill. The bill, which provides funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, included language submitted by Rep. Pete Aguilar that pushes the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to re-evaluate the process for determining Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loan limits. The report language encourages HUD to raise FHA loan limits in regions with housing markets that are still recovering from the recession, like San Bernardino. Relief will specifically apply to Metropolitan Statistical Areas of 1,300 square miles. This change would help more families access affordable loans that better reflect the median sales price in the region.
