Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) has received $2,975,245 in federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The funding will be distributed in annual installments of $595,049 per year over five years and allow the LLUH Education Consortium Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Program to create a one-year preventive medicine training option for residents who have completed internal or family medicine residencies with a focus on maternal health.

 

“Loma Linda University Health is one of the most important research and medical education institutions in the country, and we’re lucky to have them in the Inland Empire. I’m proud to announce this funding, which will give Inland Empire women and mothers access to the highest-quality health care while allowing LLUH to continue training medical experts right here in our community. I’ll continue working in Congress to expand access to high-quality health care for every San Bernardino County resident,” said Aguilar.

 

Karen Studer, MD, the principal investigator and program director, said “This grant will have a significant impact on the women of the Inland Empire by allowing collaboration between multiple local organizations. We will be working with the Loma Linda University Health departments of obstetrics and gynecology, infectious disease, and local grassroots organizations SAC Health System, VA Loma Linda Healthcare System and the San Bernardino County Health Department to create an interdisciplinary and interprofessional Maternal Mortality Review Committee for the Inland Empire.”

 

Rep. Aguilar serves on the House Appropriations Committee, the committee responsible for allocating funding for federal agencies like HRSA.
