The funding will create opportunities for students to train with emerging technology, preparing them to effectively use artificial intelligence in high-demand technical careers.

SAN BERNARDINO, CA – Today, Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-33) announced $1,000,000 in grant funding for San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) to enhance the school’s geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) curriculum, which integrates AI tools into geographic information sciences (GIS), ultimately setting up students for successful careers in technical fields. In collaboration with the University of Redlands and local K-12 schools, SBVC will also create educational pathways that can be replicated nationally, preparing students for the modern workforce through a GeoAI certificate and an enhanced GIS associate degree. 

“By investing in local technical training programs, we are preparing our students for the jobs of tomorrow,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar. “I am proud to announce this grant funding for San Bernardino Valley College that will give Inland Empire students more options to find good-paying jobs right here in our community.”

The funding for the Geospatial Artificial Intelligence Pathways for Technician Education and Workforce Development (GeoAIPass) Grant comes from the National Science Foundation.
