Aguilar Announces over $700,000 for Inland Empire Affordable Housing Programs
Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services (NPHS) has been awarded $270,000 and Neighborhood Housing Services of the Inland Empire, Inc. (NHSIE) has been awarded $447,000 by NeighborWorks America, a Congressionally-chartered nonprofit that provides financial support to affordable housing programs throughout the country.
“I’m proud to announce this new funding to help tackle the affordable housing crisis in our region. By working alongside our non-profit partners, we can ensure that every Inland Empire family has the opportunity to find a home where they can build their lives here in our community. I’m grateful to NPHS and NHSIE for their dedication to that goal, and I look forward to working with them to continue expanding affordable housing options in San Bernardino County,” said Rep. Aguilar.
“NPHS is beyond grateful for NeighborWorks America’s continued support,” said Clemente Arturo Mojica, NPHS President and CEO. “The funding will support NPHS’ affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization, community wealth building, job creation and environmental sustainability programs. These interconnected areas of impact create meaningful change for underserved communities throughout our region and provide emerging entrepreneurs the necessary tools to grow and thrive.”
NHSIE Executive Director Dawn Lee commented, “NHSIE exists to empower families with the tools needed to adeptly build wealth through homeownership. NeighborWorks funding is critical to our success as we are able to use it to address local needs such as down payment assistance for first time homebuyers and minor home repairs for existing homeowners and it goes a long way in our efforts to assist families in attaining and maintaining safe and stable housing in communities of choice throughout the Inland Empire. We are extremely grateful for the support that made the award possible.”
Established by Congress in 1978, NeighborWorks America is a public non-profit agency that allocates funding for affordable housing programs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Aguilar sits on the Subcommittee that oversees funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. There, he has successfully advocated for increased funding for the NeighborWorks program.
