Rep. Aguilar Votes to Ensure Access to Abortion
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Rep. Pete Aguilar voted to pass the Ensuring Women’s Right to Freedom Act (H.R. 8297), which will protect Americans from extreme state laws that criminalize abortion by ensuring that women cannot be prevented, restricted or retaliated against for traveling across state lines to seek an abortion.
“As many states seek to criminalize abortions and go after women and health care providers, we must take steps to ensure that women have the freedom to travel to seek abortion care,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar. “This legislation ensures that women in need of abortion care can safely travel to states where it is accessible. I will keep fighting to protect women’s access to reproductive health care.”
The Ensuring Women’s Right to Freedom Act also prohibits interference against a health provider’s ability to provide an abortion service that is lawful in the state. This bill also prohibits interference against a person’s ability to help someone seeking an abortion service from travelling across state lines.
Rep. Aguilar also voted today for the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022 (H.R. 8296), which restores the right to abortion nationwide, ensuring that Americans — regardless of where they live — can make their own decisions about their lives. He previously voted on this bill in September 2021 when it passed the House on a vote of 218-211.
Earlier this month, Rep. Aguilar toured the Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, who has seen a 900 percent increase in patients since Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Rep. Aguilar serves as Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and is a Member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Committee on House Administration.
