Rep. Aguilar Highlights Upcoming PACT Act Deadline for Local Veterans

HIGHLAND, CA—Today, Rep. Pete Aguilar joined VA officials and local veterans to highlight the upcoming August 9th deadline to apply for backpay.

Last year, Rep. Aguilar helped pass the Honoring our PACT Act, the largest expansion of veterans’ benefits in decades, which ensured health care benefits for over 3.5 million veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances during their service.

Qualifying veterans who apply by August 9, 2023 are eligible for retroactive benefits dating back to August 10, 2022.

“Last year, I was proud to help pass the PACT Act, which represents the largest investment in veterans’ health care in a generation,” Rep. Aguilar said. “Many of you have heard the stories of servicemembers risking their lives in war and coming home to their loved ones safe—only to be stricken by debilitating illness when they return.” said Rep. Aguilar. “Now that we’ve taken this important first step by passing the PACT Act, we need to make sure that everyone who is eligible for its benefits can take advantage of it. I want to encourage everyone who thinks this could apply to them to visit www.VA.gov/PACT.”

Rep. Aguilar was joined by:

Dr. V. Franklin Sechriest, MD, Chief of Staff of VA Loma Linda Health Care

Victor Tordesillas, Interim Director of the San Bernardino County VA office

Emmett O’Meara, Director of the Los Angeles VA Regional Office

Josephine “Josie” Thomas, Commander of the American Legion Post 421
