Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the County of San Bernardino has received two federal grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), $8,131,931 and $1,667,000, to help provide treatment and linkage services to residents living with HIV/AIDS. The funding will be allocated to various nonprofit agencies throughout the Inland Empire and will help provide medical and support services in addition to outreach and counseling.

 

“Bringing an end to the HIV/AIDS epidemic is about using all of the resources available to us to expand treatment availability and enhance outreach to traditionally underserved communities. I’m proud to announce this funding, which will help members of our community access the care they need,” said Aguilar.  

 

“This funding is an unprecedented opportunity for the Inland Empire to receive these sorts of investments towards ending the HIV epidemic in the Inland Empire. These resources will allow providers to develop the disruptive innovation that is needed to tackle our regions greatest challenges in responding to HIV and other related health disparities impacting our community’s most vulnerable,” said Gabriel Maldonado, CEO of TruEvolution, one of the nonprofit partners awarded funding.

 

Aguilar serves on the House Appropriations Committee, the committee responsible for funding federal programs and agencies like HRSA.
