Rep. Pete Aguilar announced that the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino (HACSB), the largest provider of affordable housing in the County, received $2,403,166 in additional CARES Act funding for Housing Assistance Payments. These payments allow HACSB to subsidize rent payments for low-income families, helping to reduce homelessness and keep more families safe in their homes during the coronavirus crisis.

“I helped pass the CARES Act so that Inland Empire residents would have the resources they need to navigate this crisis. I was proud to vote for this funding to help families in our region make ends meet and keep their homes, and will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to bring additional, much-needed assistance to San Bernardino County,” said Aguilar.

“We appreciate the CARES Act supplemental funding, which will help both the families we serve and our partner landlords. Hundreds of participating families have lost their jobs due to COVID, and cannot pay part of or all their portion of the rent, which puts landlords in a financial hardship. These funds are providing our communities which some relief during these unprecedented times. Our projections estimate that these funds will be able to assist families experiencing these hardships now and through part of 2021,” said Maria Razo, HACSB’s Executive Director. 

Rep. Aguilar voted to pass the CARES Act on March 27, 2020, and has been a vocal advocate for an additional relief package to help working families navigate the financial hardship caused by the coronavirus. In May, he helped pass the Heroes Act in the House of Representatives, a bipartisan relief package to provide additional stimulus payments to most Americans, and give local communities funding to avoid budget cuts and layoffs of essential staff and first responders.
