SAN BERNARDINO, CA — Rep. Pete Aguilar today announced $72,384,910 in funding for transit agencies in Riverside and San Bernardino counties as a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, more than double the funding allocated to the region in the previous year. The Federal Transit Authority (FTA) announced a $20 billion investment nationwide, $1.96 billion in California, included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and enabled by the passage in March of the Fiscal Year 2022 government funding bill.

“Increased transit funding helps our economy grow and improves the quality of life for our residents,” Rep. Aguilar said. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will create good-paying jobs right here in our community. When we invest in our transit, we can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, while increasing access to public transportation.”

“The increased federal funding this year will greatly enhance public transit throughout our county,” said Curt Hagman, President of San Bernardino County Transportation Authority. “We appreciate Congressman Aguilar’s support of our public transit partners as they look to improve transportation in San Bernardino County.”

Last year, Riverside and San Bernardino counties received $36,001,464. The increased funding will allow transit agencies to buy new buses and railcars, address their repair backlogs, modernize their fleets and transition to new technologies to address the climate crisis. These upgrades will support the expansion of U.S. manufacturing due to Buy America requirements that apply to steel, iron and other materials used in public transportation projects that receive federal assistance.

Previously, Rep. Aguilar announced important funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, including: $84 million for wildfire prevention in California over the next 5 years, $56 million for Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure and $1 billion from the Federal Aviation Administration for new airport terminal funding.

Rep. Aguilar serves as the Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, the committee responsible for funding federal programs and agencies.
