Rep. Aguilar Secures Grant Funding For Redlands Airport Runway
Today, Rep. Pete Aguilar announced $365,573 in grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to resurface the sole, 4,500 foot runway at Redlands Municipal Airport.
“Redlands Municipal Airport is an economic engine in our community and maintaining safe and efficient airport operations by investing in our infrastructure helps keep our local economy humming,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar. “I’m going to continue to prioritize investing in our infrastructure to help grow our economy and raise the quality of life for our residents.”
“We greatly appreciate the continued support of Congressman Aguilar and the award of this crucial grant to address critical infrastructure needs,” Redlands Assistant City Manager Chris Boatman said. “This project focuses on the resurfacing of 4,500 feet of the existing runway and west apron pavement at Redlands Municipal Airport. The resurfacing is crucial for extending the runway’s useful life, ensuring continued safe operations, and maintaining the airport’s infrastructure in optimal condition. By addressing the wear and tear on the pavement, the project aims to prevent further degradation, enhance safety for all users, and support the long-term sustainability of the airport.”
Redlands Municipal Airport has operated since 1947. It serves roughly 291 based aircraft, facilitates nearly 80,000 annual operations and is used by the United States Forest Service (USFS) and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) for emergency wildfire control. The airport is crucial to the surrounding community, generating an approximate $8 million in economic output every year, employing 75 on-site staff and indirectly supporting an additional 1500 jobs.
Rep. Aguilar serves as Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations.
