Rep. Pete Aguilar Issues Statement on Agreement Between Dockworkers Union and Shipping Companies
In light of Friday night’s announcement of an agreement between the International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association, Rep. Pete Aguilar offered the following statement:
“I’m very pleased to hear the news that an agreement was reached between the International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association. I applaud both organizations for working together to see this through, as well as U.S. Labor Secretary Perez for assisting with negotiations. As our nation is just in the early stages of economic recovery, reaching an agreement was pivotal for the stability of California’s economy and the United States as a whole. Again, I commend both groups for their cooperation and look forward to getting our ports and trade operations back on track.”
Earlier this month, Representative Aguilar joined members of the California Congressional Delegation to send a letter to both groups, urging them to reach an agreement immediately. Representative Aguilar serves California’s 31st congressional district, which encompasses part of San Bernardino County including Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, and Redlands.
